Maya Abdominal Therapy

Restoring Balance Through
Gentle, Hands-On Care

Maya Abdominal Therapy originates in ancient Maya massage practices as taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo. Gentle external massage helps guide organs back into proper position and enhances the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses, and energy throughout the abdomen, back, hips, and sacrum.

This increased flow helps remove congestion in the belly and pelvic bowl, restore balance, and support the body's natural healing processes.

I also teach you a daily abdominal self-massage routine to enhance the results of professional sessions and support continued healing between appointments.

What to Expect

Your Initial Visit

The initial visit for patients who are new to Karuna Acupuncture is approximately two hours long. It includes:

  • A comprehensive health intake

  • Physical assessment

  • Maya Abdominal Therapy treatment

  • Self-care education for between sessions

During the session, you will be unclothed and professionally draped, similar to a traditional massage. Because the uterus sits just above the pubic bone, treatment begins quite low in the abdomen. The massage covers the entire abdomen, back, hips, and sacrum.

This work helps improve blood, lymphatic, nerve, and energy flow to the abdominal and pelvic organs, supports proper uterine placement, and promotes pelvic alignment for greater comfort and freedom of movement.

Your At-Home Self-Care Practice

Daily Self-Massage for Lasting Results

A key component of Maya Abdominal Therapy is learning how to care for your body between sessions.

I will teach you the self-massage routine developed by Dr. Arvigo and provide written instructions to take home. We recommend practicing this simple 10-minute massage daily, as consistent self-care can improve and accelerate your results.

A Complementary Approach to Healing

Maya Abdominal Therapy + Acupuncture

Clinically, I find that combining Maya Abdominal Therapy with acupuncture often leads to more effective and rapid healing. Together, these therapies can support circulation, nervous system regulation, reproductive health, and overall wellness.
